How a 2,000-sqm Music Fountain Landed on a Bali Beachfront Resort 6 Weeks Before Opening

I run the pre-opening team for a five-star beachfront resort in south Bali. The villa group decided in late spring that the lagoon in front of the main building had to have a music fountain show, with a soft "fire on water" effect, ready by mid-November. That gave us roughly 26 weeks, and the builder had scheduled the lagoon handover for week 20.

• Week 5: container on-site, install crew mobilized.

• Week 6: install crew finished the pump skid + cabling + floating platform anchoring.

• Week 7: dry run programming. First show, in front of our GM.

• Week 8: opening show — three nights a week thereafter.

That is 60 working days from "concept sign-off" to "first performance," and it gave us enough buffer to make two rounds of show-choreography changes before opening night.

What I'd watch out for on a beachfront site:

• Salt spray on the pump skid. Wenjin standard pump skids are stainless 304; for a beachfront site we asked for 316 cabling glands and a sacrificial zinc anode on the platform frame. They swapped without drama.

• Wind and the fire effect. Fire-on-water nozzles have a wind tolerance of about 6 m/s steady / 8 m/s gust. Anything above that and the burner auto-shuts. Worth checking that your choreography script respects this rather than fighting it.

• Show length. Our opening show is 9 minutes, no intermission, run twice a night. Anything longer loses guests.
